Job Summary
As a Robotics Software Engineer you will be joining the process innovation team focused on building the factory of the future. We are a young and ambitious team developing high-tech cutting-edge products for improving the quality & efficiency of our automated production while improving the lives of our staff/colleagues.

Your role will be part of our Autonomous Intelligent Vehicle (AIV) team where you will be developing algorithms to improve the driving behaviour and capabilities of our autonomous vehicle platform. Topics may include: computer vision, path/trajectory/motion planning, machine learning, GPU computing, etc.The broader team is also responsible for building integrated computer vision/AI solutions, web apps, and a broad all-encompassing development framework/platform for building, developing, and deploying our solutions.
Job Requirements: Over the next 12 or 16 months, your role will be part of our Autonomous Intelligent Vehicle (AIV) team where you will be developing algorithms to improve the driving behaviour and capabilities of our autonomous vehicle platform. Topics may include: computer vision, path/trajectory/motion planning, machine learning, GPU computing, etc. This term, the following features are currently spotlighted for updates/creation: precision docking with other systems, simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), battery management, trajectory generation, traffic synchronization/logic.

Hard Minimum Qualifications
  • Proficient with C++, data structures, and algorithms
  • Experience working with Linux-based operating systems (such as: Debian, Ubuntu)
  • Experience in a computer vision/ai/machine learning project
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in the Professional Experience Year Co-op Program
  • Available for 12 or 16 months
  • Completed grade 12 or first year university physics or applied math
  • Familiar with one of Java or Python
  • Experience using DevOps tools such as GitHub and GitLab
  • Experience developing concurrent (multi-threaded) applications
Bonus Points
  • Completed courses covering any of the following topics: computer vision, concurrent systems, operating systems, robot dynamics and control, kinematics, data structures and algorithms, numerical computation, computer graphics, machine learning, artificial intelligence
  • Experience with embedded/edge processors such as: Raspberry Pi, Nvidia Jetson
  • Has participated in robotics or engineering design teams
  • Good attention to detail and abstract thinking
  • Experience working on a large code base
Tools and skills you may develop:
  • Advanced programming using Java, Python, and C++
  • Programming and optimising GPU-executed algorithms using CUDA
  • Building concurrent systems using multiple languages and runtime environments (bridging C++ and Java via JNI, shared libraries, etc.)
  • Developing camera-based vision systems using classical techniques
  • Applying advanced control theory topics such as quintic spline motion profiling, feedforward estimates, and feedback control loops
  • Developing complex computer vision algorithms using OpenCV
  • Applying mathematical concepts you learned in school (kinematics, forces, calculus, discrete math, linear algebra etc.) to real world problems
