Department Description:
Sanofi's Molecular Biology Centre in Toronto, part of the Analytical Sciences department, applies molecular biology and bioinformatics in the testing of vaccines and biologicals, typically in preparation for clinical trials. Our team consists of highly competent individuals working together towards these common goals. We continually explore new technologies in order to fulfill our mandate ever more efficiently and effectively, all the while working within a regulated environment.
Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of a Scientist, A Bioinformatics / Computational Science Co-Op student may be expected to perform, but is not limited to, the following job functions:
Develop and optimize analytical test methods for new vaccines and other products, respecting Project timelines and constraints. Develops test methods that could be use as release, stability, and characterization assays for new vaccine and other biological products.
Test method development encompasses literature search, feasibility assessment, optimization, and validation.
Activities can include:
Provide support to others with bioinformatics analysis
Explore bioinformatics tools (open source or commercial)
Develop and optimize algorithm for analyzing large genomics datasets (raw sequencing data, copy number variants, methylation, etc.)
Search public database to support the bioinformatics need of the unit (e.g. primer design, sequence alignment, BLAST searches)
Participate in software testing, drafting of documents (e.g. functional requirements, User Acceptance testing, validation protocol I report)
Participate in the design and integration of new data types and novel visualization tools
Support system administration of Linux systems within the laboratory
Conduct, with minimal supervision, laboratory experiments that are scientifically valid, accurate and properly documented according to established procedures and relevant quality guidelines.
Compliance with required training and quality.
Works within the policies, procedures and regulations as required by the Company and under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Participates in +QDCI Board in Platform and Departmental meetings.
Promotes communication and good teamwork to ensure flexibility in the workplace, and supports the completion of objectives in ARD.
Contributes to the development of new platform technologies and instrumentation that improve the quality and throughput of departmental test methods.
Day to day tasks may include:
Performing laboratory tests that required the generation of reliable and precise data
Ensuring accurate and detailed documentation is carried for all activities
Carrying out routine tasks accurately and following strict methodologies
Recording and presenting experimental results and discussing their implication with others
Maintaining and updating reagent inventories and other laboratory maintenance
Keeping up to date with technical and compliance training requirements
Additional other lab support activities as required Ensuring compliance with quality and with Health and Safety
Job Requirements:
Basic qualifications:
Must be currently enrolled as a student at an accredited university, in an accredited Co-Op program and have completed at least one year of study, with plans to return to school after the assignment.
Education: Working towards a degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Engineering, Sciences or related sciences field
Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or 8.0 on a 12.0 scale
Technical skills: Proficient in use of MS Office, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
Must be legally eligible to work for Sanofi in Canada
Work Authorization: Must be legally entitled to work for Sanofi in Canada for the duration of the assignment.
