Department Description:
The Digital Data team at Sanofi Canada is the innovation engine that enables the digital transformation of the company globally. Our global AI Center of Excellence is based out of Toronto, collaborating with our colleagues around the globe to put data to work, creating products that provide a competitive advantage for Sanofi. Our data pods enjoy breaking down complex business problems into effective solutions. Combining business acumen with strong analytical skills, our data and AI strategy team is dedicated to leading the transformation and answering major questions that help our organization make objective decisions. As a part of the data strategy and operations team, the role includes translating business strategy into data and AI strategy, driving the business forward.

Responsibilities:
  • Propose and establish technical designs to meet business and technical requirements.
  • Develop and maintain data engineering solutions based on requirements and design specifications using appropriate tools and technologies.
  • Create data pipelines / ETL (extract, transform and load) pipelines and optimize performance.
  • Test and validate developed solution to ensure it meets requirements.
  • Create design and development documentation based on standards for knowledge transfer, training, and maintenance.
  • Work with business and products teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical needs.
  • Adhere to and promote to best practices and standards for code management, automated testing, and deployments.
  • Leverage existing or create new standard data pipelines within Sanofi to bring value through business use cases.
  • Develop automated tests for CI (continuous integration) /CD (continuous deployment) pipelines.
  • Gather/organize large & complex data assets and perform relevant analysis.
  • Conduct peer reviews for quality, consistency, and rigor for production level solution.
  • Actively contribute to Data Engineering community and define leading practices and frameworks.
  • Communicate results and findings in a clear, structured manner to stakeholders.
  • Remain up to date on the company's standards, industry practices and emerging technologies.
Job Requirements: Basic qualifications:
  • Must be currently enrolled as a student at an accredited university, in an accredited Co-Op program and have completed at least one year of study, with plans to return to school after the assignment.
  • Education: Working towards a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or relevant field.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or 8.0 on a 12.0 scale
  • Technical skills: Proficient in use of MS Office, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Must be legally eligible to work for Sanofi in Canada
  • Work Authorization: Must be legally entitled to work for Sanofi in Canada for the duration of the assignment.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Able to work independently and in collaboration with others
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and analytical skills
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Desire to work within a team environment
  • Strong project management skills including organization, time management, and follow-up
  • Experience in data engineering, integration, data warehousing, business intelligence, business analytics, or comparable role with relevant technologies and tools (Spark/Scala, Informatica/IICS a plus)
  • Understanding of data structures and algorithms.
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages(Python, Shell scripting)
  • Experience in cloud-based data platforms (Snowflake is a plus)
  • Experience with job scheduling and orchestration (Airflow is a plus)
  • Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases technologies/concepts.
  • Experience working with data models and query tuning.
  • Experience working cross-functional teams to solve complex data architecture and engineering problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new data and software engineering technologies in short amount of time.
