JOB SUMMARY

NCC Group is expert in providing deep technical cybersecurity assessments and advice. As part of our ongoing expansion program we are seeking interns to join our growing team. The main Canadian office is in Waterloo, Ontario, but many of our consultants and interns join us remotely for some or all of their time.

At NCC Group, we are always on the lookout for new and emerging talent. We have one of the largest teams of technical security experts in the world, and student interns play a key role in it by bringing new insight and energy. Undergraduate recruitment is therefore extremely important to us to ensure that we remain at the cutting edge of cybersecurity.

For those with the drive and talent to succeed, we can offer unrivalled training, support, and opportunity, helping you to become a world-class information security expert.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Our internship program helps us create the next generation of security experts. Your internship will provide in-depth training and shadowing of active engagements in a wide variety of security domains. You will have the opportunity to learn about a broad range of technologies and to specialize in an area of interest to you.

Those who participate will spend their time not only learning, but also applying what they've learned in support of client-focused engagements. We also encourage security research and capability development, so many of our students spend a portion of their internship working on such projects.

As a Security Consulting Intern, you will take on challenging work that spans a diverse set of technological domains. Your projects could involve assessing and breaking security in any of the following areas based on your experience and interests:

  • Web, mobile, and desktop applications
  • Cloud infrastructure
  • Containers and orchestration
  • Network infrastructure penetration testing
  • Operating system build review, including Linux and Android systems

To ensure you are getting all the support you need, you will have a manager and other advisors who will guide you through our program.

Job Requirements:

The most important qualification that the candidate must possess is a passion to learn and to practice skills in cybersecurity. Beyond this desire to learn, we are looking for interns with the following qualifications:

  • Participating in a University or College program in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Working knowledge of one or more programming languages.
  • Familiarity with security concepts and how vulnerabilities manifest in software and systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, because explaining bugs is as important as finding them!

While the following skills are not mandatory, they will certainly help your application get our attention:

  • Knowledge of security in one or more domains (Mobile, Web, Cloud Infrastructure, Containers and Orchestration, Network Infrastructure, Operating Systems, Hardware, Wireless Communication, Cryptography).
  • Familiarity with Internet protocols (IP, TCP, HTTP).
  • Ability to audit source code and perform black-box reverse engineering.
  • Significant software development or programming abilities, particularly in C, Java, or Python.
  • Personal projects! Whether contributing to OSS, tending your home lab, or hacking together an Arduino bartender to automatically make your drinks, we love folks who translate their personal passion for technology to action. The line between great makers and great breakers is often blurry.
  • Upper year students are preferred.
