Job Description: When you go to a show, you hear more than words and music. You hear how the quietness of the room, the shape of the room, and the finishes in the space work together to create an experience.

You’re a talented student, looking for challenging work, flexibility, and a culture that pushes you to be your best.  You want to engineer that experience.  We’re Aercoustics Engineering Ltd., and this is where you belong.

Who is Aercoustics?
We’re an award-winning, national leader in consulting engineering services in the field of acoustics, noise and vibration. Our team of “outrageous engineers” works on varied and challenging projects, from noise reduction of pits and quarries, to designing world-class performance spaces for the Royal Conservatory. On any given day you might find us in the middle of a wheat field assessing the noise from wind turbines, or deep in the subway tunnels conducting multi-channel vibration measurements. Wherever you find us, you can be sure that we are pushing industry boundaries, and having fun.

We would love to hear from you if…
You’re curious and driven to understand the why and how behind every problem. You are a self-starter with a proven track-record of taking initiative and making things happen. You are excited to work hard, learn a lot, and have fun as a valued member of a high-performing team. You are our next Engineering Intern – and we can’t wait to meet you!
We’re looking for a student to join our Project Engineering team who enjoys tackling tough problems, loves getting their hands dirty and excels at effectively communicating and working on a team.

Acoustics Project Intern – The Role
Your primary goal in this role will be to support the engineering staff at Aercoustics. You will work with experienced engineers to figure out how to achieve acoustic goals while considering the full context of the clients’ needs – sometimes it can be pretty complicated!

As a member of an integrated team that believes “we’re all in it together”, you will work with many different people, on many different projects. Each new project will challenge you to further develop your engineering skills and your decision-making process. You will be pushed to think outside the box - there may be twenty solutions to the same problem, so we encourage our people to think creatively, use their professional judgement, and “respect the science”.

You will gain a wide-range of valuable experience: preparing models and calculations, completing complex data-analysis on large datasets, reviewing drawings, writing reports, and interacting with clients. You will also have the opportunity to attend client meetings and conduct site visits to perform noise and vibration measurements. You will gain exposure to a wide variety of industries including construction, architecture, mining, manufacturing, transit, and renewable energy – to name a few.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist engineering team to deliver project work
  • Conduct site visits in a variety of locations throughout the GTA and beyond
  • Perform noise and vibration measurements in a variety of contexts
  • Create complex noise propagation models and interior 3D acoustic models
  • Analyze large datasets to find patterns and draw conclusions
  • Write detailed technical reports for clients, and see your recommendations implemented
  • Interface with clients and other engineers as required
  • Attend bi-weekly training sessions to cultivate a deep understanding of all things related to acoustics, noise & vibration
Although you are a student, and still learning, you will be treated as a full member of the engineering team, with the expectation of delivering work at the same level.
Job Requirements: Here’s our list of “must-haves:”
  • 3rd year student in an Engineering Program or Computer Science
  • Strong knowledge of core mechanical/electrical/physics subjects, with a real understanding of how to apply what you’ve learnt in school
  • Strong knowledge of Word and Excel
  • Excellent written and oral communication skill

Here are our “nice-to-haves:”
  • Experience with programming languages, including Python
  • Possession of a valid drivers’ licence
  • A knowledge of digital signal processing
  • A knowledge of acoustics, noise and vibration
  • Familiarity with mechanical HVAC systems
  • Experience in the Architecture/Engineering Consulting industry
  • Experience in a client facing role or dealing with the public

Though not required, you will also find this position particularly engaging if you have an interest in any of the following areas:
  • Urban planning / transit planning
  • Architecture & building design
  • Renewable energy planning
