Location: Markham, Ontario 
 
This is an on-site role as the hiring team will require the student to work in the Markham office throughout the entire duration of the co-op work term.
 
 
Program Term: 16-month position from May 1, 2024 – Aug 29, 2025 
 
About the Department
The Signal Integrity Engineering team is an essential component in AMD. We develop electrical design rules for high-speed signal paths between ICs and power delivery paths to ICs. The team provides electrical modeling, simulation, and characterization services for the design of high-speed signal propagation and power delivery networks in AMD products.
 
The Role
As a Signal Integrity Engineer Co-op, you will have the opportunity to work with cross-functional Package and Board-Level Design teams. You will support the development of the next generation of AMD CPU and GPU products. 
 
What you’ll be doing
Assist in development of AMD graphics products including GDDR and HBM for consumer and data center projects
Prepare and optimize PCB, package, and interconnect models to perform system SI (Signal Integrity) simulations
Develop Python/MATLAB scripts to automate simulations and data processing
Engage in correlation work with labs and other teams to validate simulation methodologies
Analyze data and prepare presentation to discuss findings with senior SI engineers
Engage in discussions with different stakeholders within the company to obtain necessary information for proceeding SI work 

What you’ll learn
Use Leading EDA tools such as Ansys SI wave, HFSS and Q2D and built in house tools
High-speed interconnects such as GDDR, DDR, HBM, UCIE
Engineering project planning and execution flow
Transmission line theory and other signal integrity fundamentals
Job Requirements: Key Qualifications
3rd year student pursuing degree is Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, and/or related disciplines 
Must be returning to school following the internship 
Completion of course works in statistics, signals and systems, and wave theory
Effective communication, organization, and documentation skills
Problem solving and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications 
Experience in Python, MATLAB, and other scripting languages
Understanding of electronic circuits and components
Familiarity with LINUX environments
